Yes — always do the ceiling before any furniture or flooring is installed. Ceiling work generates dust, vibration from drilling, and requires clear room access for the GI frame installation. Protecting new furniture during ceiling work adds cost and risk; doing the ceiling first adds none.

A well-designed false ceiling uses peripheral coves (which appear to float the ceiling rather than lower it), central frames with a step-up (which create an illusion of the ceiling being higher at the centre), or perimeter bulkheads that guide the eye upward. In rooms under 9 feet, we typically avoid dropping the full ceiling by more than 4–6 inches — enough to conceal the electrical wiring but not enough to feel cramped.

Gypsum board ceilings are faster to install, have cleaner joints, and are more resistant to cracking over time — they are our standard recommendation. POP (Plaster of Paris) ceilings are typically used for decorative cornices, custom shapes, or traditional designs — they allow more sculptural freedom but require skilled plasterers and crack more easily with building settlement.
